1220 Scores with Carolina Basketball Museum
CHAPEL HILL, NC--When it comes to basketball at the University of North Carolina, few names mean more than those of Dean Smith, Michael Jordan and Phil Ford. The legacy of these great men now have a place to forever live on in the Carolina Basketball Museum in Chapel Hill.
The compelling story of Carolina Basketball is now an experience that each fan and alumni can take part in thanks to the museum. Large format graphics of game-winning, life-changing moments line the walls. Intense and historical audio visual images resonate throughout the building, and incredible memorabilia can be seen mounted with pride in carefully crafted artifact display cases.
“The Carolina Basketball Museum is unbelievable,” Men’s Head Basketball Coach Roy Williams said. “It completely blew me away the first time I went inside. Our staff that put together the museum tells me that 1220 was great to work with and went up to, and beyond every expectation we had. We wouldn’t have this incredible new museum without the good people at 1220 doing such a great job.”
The 7,000 square-foot museum includes three rooms: The March Madness room featuring Final Four memorabilia and Atlantic Conference Championship players; The Championship Room displaying trophies from Championships and The Game Room, featuring North Carolina NBA players, with a special Michael Jordan display.
“We are certainly proud to be a part of this one-of-a-kind facility,” said Matt Carden, President of 1220 who fabricated and installed all exhibit aspects of the museum. “This project was a challenge, and one that we put our heart and soul into. The museum is one of—if not the most—high-tech and interactive sports environments in the country, and we could not be more pleased with the finished product.”
