NASHVILLE, TN – MARCH 7, 2003 – 1220 helped Vanderbilt University celebrate 50 years of excitement on the Memorial Gymnasium court by fabricating a basketball exhibit in the now renovated Memorial Gymnasium.

Memorial Magic, as the exhibit is called, takes visitors through the Commodores’ basketball history, highlights and achievements. Vanderbilt basketball glory is all chronicled in casework and graphic displays. Memorial Magic makes use of the space available in the lobbies and hallways of their renovated building.

Sharing the credit, Craig Dunn, 1220’s Vice President of Museum Services, points out, “the design for Memorial Magic at Vandy was made by The Douglas Group. 1220 has been collaborating with The Douglas Group for many years now. We really make good partners. They enjoy working with us and we think a lot of their talent.”

Vanderbilt had specific requests for flexibility in their exhibit. The tall Plexiglas vitrines for basketball display needed to have easy access for maintenance and exhibit updates. 1220, working with The Douglas Group, created a three-sided vitrine out of one piece of Plexiglas. The interior corner of the vitrine was grooved, which eliminated the seams and allowed the case to be built with just one piece. This construction was sturdy and allowed for easy access inside the case.

“The Current Team display area is updated after each season, obviously, and 1220 came up with a clever and attractive way to build that flexibility into the display,” said Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings. “The display has also become an asset in our recruiting program as it showcases the highlights of our program’s history.”
